The Pak Global Pakistan — Greenland has declined US President Donald Trump’s proposal to send a hospital ship to the Arctic island, following his repeated threats to seize the Danish autonomous territory over “national security” concerns. Greenland’s Prime Minister Jens-Frederik Nielsen responded on Facebook, noting the offer but emphasizing that Greenland has a public healthcare system providing free treatment to its citizens.
Nielsen urged the US to engage in direct dialogue rather than making “random outbursts” on social media. The longstanding alliance between Denmark and the US, both NATO members, has been strained by Trump’s controversial remarks about a potential US takeover of the mineral-rich and strategically important island.
Danish Defence Minister Troels Lund Poulsen confirmed that Greenlanders receive necessary healthcare either locally or in Denmark for specialized treatment, dismissing the need for a US medical mission.
Earlier, Trump announced on his Truth Social platform that the US Navy hospital ship USNS Mercy was en route to Greenland to care for the “many people who are sick, and not being taken care of there,” a statement that was met with skepticism and rejection by Greenlandic and Danish officials.
