Lebanon’s Military to Take Four Months to Complete Hezbollah Disarmament Phase Amid Rising Regional Tensions

Posted on February 17, 2026 by Farwa

The Pak Global Pakistan:

Lebanon’s government has announced that its military will require at least four months to complete the second phase of its plan to dismantle Hezbollah’s arsenals in the southern part of the country. This statement was made by Minister of Information Paul Morcos on Monday amid increasing pressure from the United States and Israel for Hezbollah to disarm.

The announcement comes against a backdrop of near-daily Israeli airstrikes on Lebanon, despite a US-brokered ceasefire agreement in 2024 aimed at ending over a year of cross-border hostilities between Israel and Hezbollah. The conflict severely weakened Hezbollah, resulting in the death of many of its leaders.

As part of the ceasefire deal, Lebanon’s government pledged to dismantle Hezbollah’s weapons stockpile and tasked its military with developing a plan to oversee the disarmament process. Last month, the military reported the completion of the first phase, focused on the region between the Litani River and Lebanon’s southern border with Israel.

The military’s ongoing efforts to implement the five-stage disarmament plan are being closely monitored by international stakeholders, amid the fragile peace and persistent regional tensions.
