A 32-year-old man in Washington state fatally stabbed four people outside a residence on the Key Peninsula, northwest of Tacoma, before being shot and killed by a Pierce County sheriff’s deputy. The violent incident occurred Tuesday morning in a cul-de-sac neighborhood.
Authorities were initially dispatched around 8:41 a.m. local time after reports that the suspect had violated a no-contact order. However, deputies found the restraining order was not yet valid, as it had not been formally served to the suspect. While officers were en route to deliver the order in person, the man began attacking people outside the home.
Multiple witnesses reported the attack at approximately 9:30 a.m., and the first deputy arrived within three minutes. Shots were fired at 9:33 a.m., and the suspect was pronounced dead at the scene.
Three victims died immediately at the location, while a fourth was transported to a hospital but later succumbed to their injuries. The Pierce County Force Investigation Team is leading the ongoing investigation into the stabbing and deputy-involved shooting.
According to court records reviewed by The Associated Press, the home belonged to a woman who had filed for a one-year protection order against her son, citing mental health and substance abuse problems. She accused him of emotional abuse, property damage, and harm to her pet cat. The suspect failed to appear at the restraining order hearing.
The identities of the suspect and victims have not been publicly disclosed.
