DOHA: Tensions in the Middle East have surged to a dangerous new level after US President Donald Trump issued stern warnings of possible military action against Iran, triggering a sharp increase in American military activity at Qatar’s strategic Al Udeid Air Base.
According to media reports, multiple US warplanes took off late Sunday night from Al Udeid, indicating heightened operational readiness. The aircraft reportedly included KC-135 aerial refuelling tankers and B-52 strategic bombers — among the most formidable assets in the US Air Force’s arsenal.
Military analysts note that Al Udeid Air Base is located just 200 to 300 kilometres from the Iranian border, placing US strike capabilities dangerously close to Iranian territory and significantly escalating regional tensions.
Alongside the military buildup, Washington has also taken urgent diplomatic measures. The United States has ordered its citizens to leave Iran immediately, citing growing security concerns.
The US Virtual Embassy in Iran issued a stark advisory warning that protests across the country are rapidly intensifying and could escalate into widespread violence. American citizens were urged to depart Iran as soon as possible, preferably via land routes through Armenia or Turkey, and to make independent travel arrangements without expecting US government assistance.
With strategic bombers airborne, refuelling aircraft deployed and evacuation warnings issued, the region appears to be on the brink of a major geopolitical crisis, as the international community watches closely for Iran’s response and Washington’s next move.
