Trump Says He’ll Play ‘Indirect’ Role in Second Round of US-Iran Nuclear Talks in Geneva

Posted on February 17, 2026 by Farwa

The Pak Global Pakistan:

United States President Donald Trump has announced that he will participate “indirectly” in the upcoming second round of critical nuclear negotiations between Washington and Tehran, scheduled to take place in Geneva.

Speaking aboard Air Force One, Trump emphasized the importance of the talks, stating that while he would not be at the negotiating table, he would remain involved behind the scenes. He described Iran as a “very tough negotiator.”

The negotiations come as Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi arrived in Geneva. The talks are being conducted indirectly, with mediators facilitating communication due to longstanding tensions.

Tensions remain high, with the U.S. deploying a second aircraft carrier to the Gulf region as a show of readiness. Meanwhile, Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei warned that any attack on Iran could escalate into a broader regional conflict.

When asked about the chances of a deal, Trump referenced last year’s conflict where the U.S. and Israel conducted airstrikes on Iranian nuclear sites, disrupting earlier negotiations. Despite this, Trump suggested Iran might now be more willing to engage to avoid negative consequences.

The outcome of the Geneva talks could significantly impact regional stability and the future of Iran’s nuclear program.
