The Pak Global Pakistan:
Ukraine’s National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) has arrested former Energy Minister German Galushchenko as he attempted to cross the country’s border, officials confirmed. The arrest is linked to an ongoing investigation into a major corruption scandal known as the “Midas” case.
Galushchenko resigned in November 2025 amid increasing scrutiny over alleged financial misconduct in Ukraine’s energy sector. While NABU did not name him directly in its statement, it confirmed that a former energy minister was detained as part of the high-profile probe.
“Initial investigative proceedings are ongoing, carried out in accordance with the law and court sanctions. Details to follow,” NABU said.
The investigation, led by Ukraine’s Specialised Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAPO), centers on a $100 million money-laundering scheme allegedly orchestrated by businessman Timur Mindich, a known ally of President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Investigators allege that Galushchenko assisted Mindich in managing illicit financial flows within the energy sector. Contractors working with Energoatom, Ukraine’s state nuclear energy company, reportedly paid bribes of 10 to 15 percent to secure contracts or receive timely payments.
Galushchenko is among several ministers who resigned in 2025 following NABU’s revelations. The case has heightened scrutiny of Ukraine’s energy sector and increased pressure on the government to address systemic corruption amid ongoing economic and geopolitical challenges.
Authorities have indicated that further arrests and developments are expected as the investigation continues.
