The Pak Global Pakistan:

The United Nations Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine has confirmed that at least 15,172 Ukrainian civilians have been killed and more than 41,000 injured since Russia launched its full-scale invasion on February 24, 2022. The actual numbers are believed to be significantly higher due to the challenges in verifying many reports amid restricted access to conflict zones.

Recent hostilities continue to inflict casualties and damage across Ukraine. In the Dnipropetrovsk region’s Pokrovske community, two civilians were killed and five others injured in a Russian attack, according to Oleksandr Hanzha, head of the regional military administration. The Zaporizhia frontline experienced 918 Russian attacks targeting 36 settlements, resulting in one death and six injuries, Governor Ivan Fedorov reported.

In the Kherson region, Russian bombardments killed one person and injured five, damaging residential buildings and critical infrastructure, including a gas pipeline, Governor Oleksandr Prokudin said. Overnight, Russian forces launched 133 drones and an Iskander-M ballistic missile against Ukraine, with Ukrainian air defenses successfully shooting down 111 drones.

Conflicting reports emerge from Russian-occupied territories, with Russian-appointed officials citing Ukrainian attacks causing casualties in Kherson and Luhansk, while Russian border regions Belgorod and Bryansk also reported deaths and infrastructure damage from Ukrainian strikes. The Russian Ministry of Defence claimed to have downed 152 Ukrainian drones during the same period.

On the diplomatic front, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressed gratitude to 107 UN General Assembly members who supported a non-binding resolution calling for lasting peace in Ukraine. The resolution saw 51 countries abstain, including the United States, while 12, including Russia, voted against it.

In a televised address, Russian President Vladimir Putin accused Ukraine and its Western allies of pushing tensions to the brink and warned they would regret their actions. Putin also alleged that Ukraine, with Western intelligence support, was targeting Russian energy pipelines to undermine peace efforts.

Meanwhile, Ukraine’s ambassador to Washington, Olha Stefanishyna, revealed that the US State Department advised Kyiv to avoid attacks impacting American economic interests after Ukrainian strikes on the Russian Black Sea port of Novorossiysk inadvertently affected US oil assets. Stefanishyna clarified that the US’s concern was economic rather than a directive to halt attacks on Russian military infrastructure.

As the conflict continues, the toll on civilians and infrastructure remains grave, underscoring the urgent need for diplomatic resolutions amid escalating military and political tensions.
