United States President Donald Trump is set to host the inaugural meeting of his newly formed “Board of Peace” in Washington on Thursday. The gathering will bring together representatives from member nations to discuss strategies and funding for the reconstruction of Gaza, a region devastated by ongoing conflict.

While Western allies of the US maintain a cautious distance from the board, several Middle Eastern countries have committed to participating in the first meeting, which will be held at the US Institute of Peace.

Trump, who serves as the board’s indefinite chairman, praised the initiative on his social media platform, calling it “the most consequential International Body in History.” However, critics have accused the board of advancing an “imperial agenda,” with its scope seen by many analysts as a challenge to the United Nations’ authority.

Controversy surrounds the board’s membership, with seats offered to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Russian President Vladimir Putin—both wanted by the International Criminal Court on alleged war crimes charges. Netanyahu has accepted his seat despite objections over the inclusion of Turkish and Qatari officials on the Gaza Executive Board.

The primary focus of the meeting will be a comprehensive plan to rebuild Gaza, which has been severely damaged by Israel’s military operations, supported diplomatically and militarily by the US. The Trump administration is expected to announce $5 billion in funding from member states to support humanitarian and reconstruction efforts in Gaza.

Additionally, the board will discuss the establishment of an International Stabilization Force to police Gaza, aligned with Trump’s previously unveiled 20-point peace plan. This plan calls for a phased ceasefire, disarmament of Hamas, and a technocratic governance structure for Palestinian territories during a transition period.

The Board of Peace was officially launched at the World Economic Forum in Davos last month, with Jared Kushner, Trump’s son-in-law and executive member, unveiling ambitious reconstruction plans that include beach resorts and high-rise buildings—visions criticized by Palestinian advocacy groups as “imperialist.”

Trump has also highlighted commitments from member states to deploy thousands of personnel for the proposed International Stabilization Force and local police to maintain security in Gaza.

Rebuilding Gaza and the broader Palestinian territories is a colossal task, with the United Nations estimating the cost at around $70 billion. While initially focused on Gaza, the Board of Peace now aims to promote stability and resolve conflicts globally, with Trump declaring a vision for “WORLD PEACE” extending far beyond the Middle East.
